star with a line for the head/trunk, two arms and two legs. The 7 limbed figure is a 3D equivalent, you see a 5 pointed figure gesturing at every face.
THE LINE - A single line travels twice through a series of 7 cross junctions in a regular sequence. Any regular three dimensional figure with seven faces or seven points is determinedly asymmetric. I discovered this when constructing the figure in the drawing. The figure always turned one of its junctions inside out.
THE TITLE TEXT - The title of this sculpture bears a loose relationship with The Cloud of Unknowing- a mystical Christian text, written anonymously in the 14th Century. This title is very closely descriptive of the form that I met in my private garden of Eden whilst under hypnosis. That experience provided me with a fluid image/ experience/ source that has engaged my imagination about the relationships between us humans, form, matter, emotion, meaning and spirit. I am still working intuitively with these things in mind, trying out many different approaches. At the time of the hypnosis, I also experienced something which seems to be described in mystical texts of the same time: that is I understood the form of something implicitly whilst realising that what I understood was rationally impossible.
THE STORY- I first encountered this piece of sculpture during a hypnotherapy session. This account became my tale for the pilgrimage.
