Bio

I am an artist, writer and hacker based in the UK. During the 1990s I was an art student, then an art & technology student, then an art & technology lecturer, and a dot.com worker. In the 2000s I programmed games, prepress software and more and became involved in Free Software and Free Culture. I am on lots of mailing lists and at lots of conferences covering these subjects.

I have been a reviewer for Furtherfield since 2006. I review computer art, net.art, and books, trying to bring a historical context and a sympathetic eye to them. If you'd like to discuss anything I've reviewed then one of the mailing lists I'm on is netbehaviour...

Urinal

I commissioned the ultra-talented cwebber to make a 3D model of a urinal suitable for 3D printing and signing. It's licenced under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported licence. You can download the original Blender file versions suitable for 3D printing here: here.

White Heat Cold Logic

The third and last by Rob Myers, of a series of articles reviewing publications by the CACHe project, an archive of pioneering British computer art. Rob's first review was of the V&A's show and book "Digital Pioneers", the second was of Catherine Mason's "A Computer In The Art Room". Where "A Computer In The Art Room" concentrated on the history of art computing in British educational institutions up to 1980, "White Heat Cold Logic" gives voice to the individuals who made art using computers in that period more generally.
