Bio
jonCates develops and teaches the New Media curriculum at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Film, Video, New Media & Animation department where is an Associate Professor. His experimental New Media Art projects are presented internationally in cities such as Berlin, Beijing, Madrid, Mexico City, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Boston as well as being widely available online. His research and writings focus on Media Art Histories and Art Game Studies and appear online on reviewed platforms such as Furtherfield, Rhizome.org, the Leonardo Electronic Almanac, etc. and in publications from The Penn State University Press, The Chicago University Press, The University of Melbourne, etc. In 2007, he initiated the Phil Morton Memorial Research Archive to archive and freely distribute the Media Art work of Phil Morton and associated research.
