Chris Dooks
Bio
I trained as a film maker and ending up directing arts-based TV documentaries such as The South Bank Show in my twenties. Since then, my role has morphed, evolved or adapted over the years to the point where my vocation of Polymash, seems accurate. Despite high-brow intentions, I am a cheeky and approachable artist, designer, composer and tutor who also offers many new media skills commercially. I've a record deal or two and make aesthetically sensitive videos and photographs, conceptual web sites, web projects and tours plus immersive, audio visual installations. In recent years my personal work is enjoying a back-to-basics approach. Sometimes just words or laptop folky electronica. Songs and Stories about Salamanders and parthenogenesis (virgin birthing).
Sometimes, I'll do a Polymash event, like shows in Edinburgh's Festivals incorporating film, installations, live electronics, stories, mini lectures and songs all across a 90 minute show. And then nicely collapse. The most important thing about me I reckon, is that I am all about the social. Whether making my own work, teaching, lecturing or running workshops, I like to look people in the eye. I mean what I say and say what I mean. This site is always in progress. Email me and send me lovely attachments. If you are Buddhist, send me non-attachments.
