Andy Forbes (atty) is prominently involved in the UK and internationally in the field of creative expression through the internet, the area of art sometimes known as 'net.art', both as practitioner and as organiser of events and collective groups/projects.
Starting in 1998, Andy initiated the annual 'open arena' for net.artists to get exposure and some feedback from users for their most recent online projects at www.net-art.ws. The site has proved both a democratising force within the net.art field and year on year an interesting barometer and archive of the medium. Andy, subsequent to 1998, was invited to join the early net.art collective www.hell.com (later renamed http://www.no-such.com) and working with colleagues there for online and offline events gained a wide experience of the practice of many of the top practitioners in the field. In recent year he has initiated the international group OFFLINE and the local South London digital arts events association open_digi as well as the international collective work, the >wartime project<.
He has taken part in numerous festivals and shows in Holland, France, Spain, Mexico and the UK.
Andy's own work frequently concentrates on creating multi-user and reactive online environments using software such as XMLsocket in Flash, Shockwave 3D, sound reactive software asFFT Xtra and lately, 3D animation packages.
