Frequently Asked Questions
Can 3 Player Chess be played with a
conventional chess set?
Yes, very easily. Here
are some images of it being played on conventional sets. The rules
explain how to score the game when playing with a conventional set.
Who moves first?
| The first move
is always taken by White. A flip of the coin determines whether
it is taken by a higher piece or a pawn. |

Has 3 Player Chess be played by any
serious chess players? If so what have been their comments?
Yes. Most of these are documented
in the Pawns Unite blog.
The new game has been praised for for the way in which it retains
its drama. The most common complain from serious chess players is
about the uncontrollability of the board through the introduction
of the random element (the coin flip).
How can I play the multiplayer game
online with other players?
By logging into the game while other players
are logged in. At the moment you
have to arrange your own online meetings with other players. However
the next phase of the project will involve a series of online tournaments.
Please email me if you
would like to participate
Is this an open source project?
Yes. The files and source code for
the new game are available on request for use by any chess players,
programmers and artists interested in evolving the game further.
To receive the files and source code please email
me with some information about yourself and about any
ideas you have for extending the game and I will send you the files.
What is the future of this game?
After the successful launch of the
new online game plans are afoot for 2004 to infiltrate the international
chess playing community on and offline with the rules of the new
game. The idea is to spread new peace-promoting, non-heirarchical
models of organisation and conflict resolution like a virus. I intend
to change the way clever-chess-players' synapses fire. All
activity to this end will be logged in the blog.
There are already plans
afoot.
