Carol's Chess

In this version of the game the board has changed. All black pawns start in the middle (circle 1), on the white bits, all white pawns start in circle 2, on the black bits. The other black chess pieces start in circle 3, and the other white pieces in circle 4.

The aim of the game has changed too. Now, it isn't about getting the control of the king of the other side and crippling the opposition, it is about moving to the edge of the board and somehow negotiating play so that all pieces end up in the outer circle.

In the outer circle, a stage is over when all pieces have a piece of a different kind and a different colour standing next to them. In the first 4 circles, only one piece per section eighth is allowed. In circle 5, two pieces are allowed; in circle 6, three pieces; circles 7 and 8, four pieces.

The pieces move according to their original attributes (e.g. pawns one or two moves forward etc). No pieces are allowed to be removed from the board. The aim of the game is to move them all successfully from the middle to the outer circle of the board. Any number of people can play, from as few as one (solitaire), to as many as can take a turn at moving a piece to the edge.
